School Support Services

Many schools are experiencing unprecedented growth in the number of students with autism spectrum disorders. These students require specialized programming, staffing, consultants and staff development. Minnesota law dictates that school districts must use funds from other sources for Individual Education Program (IEP) health-related services and assessments for these students. Many schools have developed a Third Party Payment program which helps the district get funds for services on the child’s IEP such as:

  • Speech Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Personal Care Assistant
  • Mental Health Services (behavior and social work)
  • Special Transportation
  • Assistive technology devices (medical equipment)

Under Third Party Payment programs, school districts attempt to bill Medical Assistance (MA) or MinnesotaCare (MNC) for the services on the student’s IEP. The type, amount and frequency of services are per the individual child’s IEP. If funding cannot be provided through MA or MNC, Autism Allies will provide financial support to the school district.
